Channel 4 presenter and architect George Clarke has joined Fun on the Floor’s panel of experts to help people make the most of carpet. George, who presents Channel 4’s The Restoration Man and The Home Show, has joined the panel as Design Expert.

George said: “I’m a big fan of carpet. I visit a lot of people’s homes and I don’t believe we all make the most of carpet. I have light grey carpets in my house and plan to carpet the whole of my new basement. Carpet is warm, easy to care for and hygienic. It absorbs sound and keeps the heat in. I was lucky enough to be sent one of these beauties to test recently, and as a big hottie fan I immediately fell in love with it! They are super-soft to touch and generous in size. The supplied bottle inside takes nearly a full kettle’s worth which means it lasts long through the night. I admit, I’m not hugely into sewing – even though I have a G.C.S.E in Needlework – however, this lovely new book from textile designer Lisa Stickley, offers enough to tempt me rather alot. I particularly love the unconventional-ness of the lack of capitals in the text as it gives a fresh, modern feel to the book. Another favourite feature is Lisa’s drawings, full of quirkyness with originality.

So, down to the nitty gritty, though being a non-sewing person at present I can’t give you a review on patterns and instructions, but I can say that I think the book offers a fab cross-section of easy to make homewares with how-to drawings that include cushions, a blind, a pinny, placemats and peg bag. If you love sewing or simply fancy having a go for the first time then this book is a fantastic buy.

The product images are great and well styled, and the book is nicely laid out which makes for easy reading. Another bonus is that it’s a good chunky size  - there is nothing worse than trying to follow instructions from a book that is too small…

Tesco Direct! This colourful image landed in my inbox this afternoon, and I was very impressed so thought I’d share it with you all. I love the fuchsia, orange, gold and teal together  - the great styling also helps of course (the painting is key to the image)..but isn’t it lovely to see some bright colours for Autumn Winter instead of the usual sludge we get. The baroque chandelier is a steal at £69.99 and would look stunning in any room, the fuchsia cushions are only £9 each! The Oslo sofa is £349.99, and the neutral colour will work with any chosen scheme.
